Still have a question? Write to us.
What is a Family Hostel Chapter?
A chapter is a shared stay of 2 to 14 days where several families arrive at the same place at the same time. No rigid camp programme – more of an open community experience in the Swiss Alps.
Who is it for?
All families: couples with children, single parents, blended families, grandparents with grandchildren. Children from 0 years are welcome.
Do we have to join all activities?
No. Community moments are always optional. You decide when to join and when you want family time for yourselves.
What is included in the price?
Accommodation in a family room or apartment, access to communal spaces and kitchen, and basic infrastructure. Extra activities are listed separately per chapter.
How much does a chapter cost?
Prices start from CHF 80 per night for a family. They vary by location, season and room type.
Is childcare included?
No. Parents look after their own kids. During certain chapters, children from 6 can join the optional friLingue Daycamp (bookable separately). Please check the chapter details.
Can parents work remotely during a chapter?
Yes – especially during workation chapters. Fast WiFi, quiet work areas and a daily rhythm that includes focus time.
Are meals included?
Many chapters use communal kitchens. You cook for yourselves or join spontaneous group dinners. Some chapters offer optional half-board.
Can we book outside a chapter?
At some locations this is possible. The strongest Family Hostel experience happens during chapters when multiple families arrive together.

At some locations pets are welcome. Please ask when booking whether the specific location is pet-friendly.
Where do chapters take place?
Currently in Braunwald (Swiss Alps, Canton Glarus) and in the Greater St. Bernard region in Valais. Both are car-free or low-traffic, surrounded by mountains and hiking trails.
What is the difference between Family Hostel, Family Workation and Single-Parent chapters?
Family Hostel is the open community experience for all families. Family Workation combines work and family time in a structured rhythm. Single-Parent chapters are specifically tailored to single parents – with like-minded people and a supportive framework.
