Everything you want to know before your first Family Hostel chapter.

What exactly is a Family Hostel Chapter?

A chapter is a time-limited stay – usually 1 to 4 weeks – where several families share a large house together. Shared kitchen, separate rooms, optional activities. Not a camp, not a hotel – something in between.

How many families typically participate?

Usually 4 to 10 families. Small enough that everyone gets to know each other. Big enough that the kids always have someone to play with.

What ages is it suited for?

All ages are welcome – from babies to teenagers. Most chapters are especially popular with families of children aged 3 to 12, as children can then play independently around the house.

Can I participate as a single parent?

Absolutely – many of our most popular chapters are designed specifically for single parents. The community structure means you don't have to manage everything alone. Other parents are there to talk, share tips and swap stories – and the kids always have someone to play with.

What is included in the price?

Accommodation, access to the shared kitchen, and all organised group activities. Each family buys their own food – or you cook together, which the group decides. Travel costs and individual excursions are separate.

How social do I have to be?

As social as you like. Community is invited, not imposed. You can join all dinners and activities – or simply enjoy your holiday and say good morning at breakfast. Both styles work.

What if my child cries at night?

Every family with small children knows this. Most chapters have separate sleeping arrangements, and the community is generally very understanding. You're among people who get it.

How do I book a spot?

Parents help each other and create breathing room – for a relaxed holiday for everyone.

friLingue Daycamp – Programme for Children
